The Mindset You Need to Have Before Working from Bali
The Mindset You Need to Have Before Working from Bali – Millions of people around the world will agree if I call Bali an island paradise. But is the fun and exciting atmosphere the same when you have to work on this island instead of on holidays?
The Work from Bali program which was recently launched by the government is one of the reasons people are now changing the atmosphere of their workspace. For urban people like from Jakarta or other big cities, working in Bali may sometimes be more stressful than fun.
Both domestic and foreign residents, many ended up confining themselves in Bali during the COVID-19 pandemic and doing their jobs online. They come in droves and choose lodging as well as which destinations are good to visit.
After deciding to stay in Bali longer than usual because you want to try working from Bali, of course there are some important things that you must prepare.
The following are some things that you should prepare if you have decided to move and work in Bali:
1. WORK IS NOT A HOLIDAY
This is very important to be embedded in your mind and subconscious, because most people will see Bali as a place of recreation and it is difficult to turn it into a work environment. You will be visited by friends and they will ask you to join them on the beach to watch the sunset while you may have to work until 6-7 pm.
2. YOU WILL HAVE DIFFICULTY TO FIND FOOD
It's okay to spend money on good food, especially in a really nice place while you're on vacation. But when a tourist destination becomes your home, you will be looking for food that is friendlier to your wallet. You'll go to places that sell local food and look for cheaper but tasty food, which is mostly street food and harder to find in downtown areas. You will avoid fancy restaurants until absolutely necessary and forget about those sensational places you saw posted by your friends on their Instagram accounts.
3. CHANGE YOUR TRANSPORTATION WAY
Bali has a small road built from former rice field steps so forget about traveling by car and head for a motorbike. It will really save a lot of time, cost and parking space. Plus, almost always free parking tickets for motorbikes. There are many motorbike rentals available as long as you have a license and know how to ride them (it may sound scary at first, but once you learn how to drive, you will prefer motorbikes to cars). Many people say you'll never know what it's like to be a Balinese if you've never tried riding a motorcycle. But remember to always put safety first.
4. OBSTACLES IN LANGUAGE FOR FOREIGNERS
If you are a foreigner or maybe invite one of your foreign friends to move to Bali to try working from Bali, prepare yourself by knowing how to communicate. Although not all of them, many Balinese are able to speak and understand foreign languages. This is of course because on their island, foreigners are often met and many residents work as tourism actors. And also you are advised to adapt to the local Balinese people first, because you will live on their land and their customary rules are applied. Each country has its own customs and culture, so make sure you know at least the general traits to adapt to—but never abandon your own (good) culture and character when trying to get them to like you. Remember that adapting doesn't mean losing yourself in it.
5. HOW STRONG IS YOUR WILL TO STAY?
This will be the main thing that can predict how long you can survive in Bali. Some people come to Bali because of their assignment, sent by their company. Some come to run away from their problems or past and want to start afresh. Some love Bali so much that they don't want to go back to where they came from. Whatever your reasons, you must first love the island and be willing to adapt to keep you here long. Be in harmony with nature (also don't litter), with the people around, and get along with yourself. The last one is the most important key!
Remember if you do it with a happy heart, any work you do while in Bali is certainly meaningless.
Working from Bali is an unforgettable experience.
We are sure, you will love this island after trying to stay longer.
